This is a superb exercise for the core. This movement should be worked into almost any strength program for any athlete. Strong hips, and powerful AB-ductors are a huge asset to performance as well as injury prevention. There is no substitution for these strengths, and will keep you not only kicking butt on the field, but also staying there for a whole season.
