Is there a difference between morning and evening exercising?

What do you like better… exercising in the morning or evening?

Did you know there's often a difference in your heart rate (and potentially performance) between exercising in the morning versus the evening even though the workload is the same and your perceived exertion is the same?

There's also some other interesting differences that maybe you've experienced before but never really payed attention.

Check out this New York Times article on the subject…

Thanks Nancy for the article!

Smoking bans are good, but for the right reasons??

December 2, 2009 by spartantraining

Last night San Luis Obispo City Council banned cigarette smoking in public parks.  Here’s a link to the short article:

http://www.sanluisobispo.com/news/local/story/941220.html?story_link=email_msg

I personally think it’s a great idea because of the littering aspect.  I see smokers everyday throwing their cigarette butts on the ground, out the window, into the bushes, etc.  I’m tired of seeing these buttheads everywhere!

I’ll also go on record saying that I hate the smell of second hand smoke and was very happy when San Luis Obispo became the first city in the nation to outlaw smoking in restaurants and bars (public places I guess).

But what is their reasoning?

However, there’s an interesting confusion that this whole ban brings up…

Why did they ban cigarettes in the parks?

Was it because of the littering…

or

Was it because second hand smoke is supposedly "dangerous??"

Here’s a link to an American Cancer Society’s webpage that says, (with quite a bit of authority), "second hand smoke causes cancer," (and many other kinds of diseases).

http://www.cancer.org/docroot/ped/content/ped_10_2x_secondhand_smoke-clean_indoor_air.asp

Does it really cause cancer?

Again, I’ll be the first to say I hate second hand smoke and am glad they did it.  But the "fact" that it causes cancer and other diseases is actually questionable…

Below is an interesting take on the debate of second hand smoke.  It comes from an article written by the famous author Michael Chriton about "consensus science" and the dangers that the oxymoron can lead to.  It’s called, "Aliens Cause Global Warming."

http://www.michaelcrichton.net/speech-alienscauseglobalwarming.html

It’s a very interesting article and I recommend reading it, though, the issue of second hand smoke doesn’t come up until about 2/3 the way through the article.

Here’s a video of him defending his viewpoint in the article:

Have a great rest of your week and enjoy our smoke free environments here in SLO… for whatever reason!
