Spartan of the Week: Russ Levanway

Posted on by Ashman Posted in Spartan of the Week | Leave a comment

Russ is our first Spartan of the week at Athlon Elite. After years of re-occurring illness, Russ has found an answer with Athlon Elite. He feels great both with our training program and dietary supplements. Also, to all you other slackers out there… Russ gets his butt to the gym almost every morning before work where he owns and manages his own technology company. Check the link below to see Russ in action. Congrats Russ!

At Athlon, we love to get down. Check out these sweet shots of the beach workout. Remember, this class is included in your membership as are all Outdoor Adventure classes, and it’s also open to friends and family of our members in the community free of charge. We only ask that everyone purchase an Athlon Elite T-shirt, and wear it to training. Get out, Get down, have fun baby!

Survival Tip Of The Week

Posted on by Ashman Posted in Supplements | Leave a comment

To begin this segment, I want ya’ll to know that this information is designed to help save your life. Or at least make that afternoon hike with the family seem easier. These are the tricks that we at Athlon Elite have picked up over the years.

Tip #1:

When moving through soft sand (like when you get stranded in the Sahara) remember that increased speed equals increased exertion. You cannot move as fast through sand, so take your time and accept the fact that it’s going to be slower. Increased exertion will increase sweat rate and calorie usage. With that said, always bring extra water and food when traversing tough terrain, especially sand.

The exercise of the week is a kettle bell swing. This dynamic exercise develops both flexibility and explosive power. This is a fantastic training tool for every level of athlete. Keep those hips strong baby! Check out the video from Crossfit.

8/6/2007 Daily Monday Nutrition Tip

Posted on by Ashman Posted in Nutrition | 3 Comments

Perhaps the finest method for weight loss is a combination of cardiovascular exercise and a diet rich in fiber and low in simple sugars. While this is true for most people, at Athlon Elite our members learn that both fiber and simple sugars have a place in our diets. Timing of these nutrients is essential for keeping the fire burning hot, but also keeping us safe from injury and over-training. So, the tip of the day…

Eat fiber throughout your day EXCEPT around your workout. Ideally you want no fiber to enter your mouth 2 hours before, or until 90 minutes after your workout. This will ensure that stomach discomfort is held to a minimum, and digestion of carbohydrates is not hindered following a workout.

Eat your veggies, your fruit, and your pysilium husk… just not around your workout.

Any questions, contact Athlon Elite’s in house sports nutritionist Dave Brown at trisport@gmail.com
